⚡ How to Draw Pikachu Step by Step (Super Cute & Easy!)
π Step 1: Draw the Face
The face is the most important part of Pikachu because it carries all the emotion and cuteness. Take your time with this step.
π Eyes
Start by drawing two large circles. Keep them evenly spaced, but slightly closer together than you think — this small adjustment instantly increases the cuteness factor.
Inside each eye:
-
Draw a tiny white circle near the top to act as a highlight. This gives the eyes a shiny, lively look.
-
Add a smaller black circle inside the eye.
-
Color the remaining area black, carefully avoiding the white highlight.
Make sure both eyes are aligned horizontally. If one is slightly higher, the character might look confused instead of cute!
π― Tip: Bigger eyes = more adorable. Don’t be afraid to exaggerate slightly.
π Nose & Mouth
For the nose:
-
Draw a tiny dot centered between the eyes.
For the mouth:
-
Create a wide “W” shape just below the nose.
-
Inside the lower center of that shape, draw a small curved line to represent the tongue.
Keep the mouth wide and joyful. Pikachu always looks cheerful and energetic, so avoid sharp or tight lines.
π Cheeks
Pikachu’s cheeks are one of his most iconic features.
-
Draw two round circles, one on each side of the face.
-
Make sure they are symmetrical and placed slightly below the eyes.
-
These will be colored bright red later.
These circles should be bold and noticeable — they are essential to Pikachu’s charm.
π¨ Step 2: Draw the Head
Now that the facial features are placed, we build the head shape around them.
-
Start with a soft rounded square shape.
-
Keep the corners curved — no sharp angles.
-
The top should be slightly wider than the bottom.
π― Pro Tip: Make the head slightly bigger than the body. This creates a chibi-style proportion that makes Pikachu look extra cute and childlike.
Check that the eyes sit comfortably inside the shape and don’t touch the edges.
⚡ Step 3: Add the Ears
Pikachu’s ears give him personality and movement.
-
Draw two long, pointed ears extending from the top corners of the head.
-
They should be slightly curved, not perfectly straight.
-
Tilt one ear slightly to give a dynamic, playful feeling.
Near the tip of each ear:
-
Add a diagonal line.
-
The upper portion will later be colored black.
✨ Small details make a big difference. A slight ear tilt adds energy and life to your drawing.
π‘ Step 4: Draw the Body
Underneath the head:
-
Draw a pear-shaped body.
-
It should be narrower at the top and wider at the bottom.
-
Keep the lines light so you can adjust proportions easily.
Make sure the body is smaller than the head for a cute, stylized effect. Pikachu’s design is simple, but proportion control makes a huge difference in the final look.
π Step 5: Arms & Feet
π Arms
-
Draw two short, rounded tube shapes on each side of the body.
-
Add small triangle-like bumps at the ends to represent fingers.
Keep them small and soft. Avoid sharp lines — Pikachu’s design is all about rounded, friendly shapes.
π¦Ά Feet
-
Draw two flat oval shapes at the bottom of the body.
-
Tilt them slightly outward for balance and a relaxed stance.
The feet should not be too long — short and wide looks cuter.
⚡ Step 6: The Lightning Tail
This is Pikachu’s signature feature — take your time here.
-
Start with a thin line coming from behind the body.
-
Build a zigzag lightning shape.
-
Make the base thinner and the tip thicker.
-
At the bottom, add a small brown rectangle to show the base of the tail.
The angles of the zigzag should be sharp but clean. Try not to make it too wavy — think “lightning bolt,” not “squiggly line.”
π₯ This tail is what instantly makes the drawing recognizable, so focus on confident, steady lines.
π¨ Step 7: Coloring
Coloring brings your drawing to life.
-
Body: Bright yellow
-
Ear tips: Black
-
Cheeks: Bright red
-
Tail base: Brown
To make your drawing look more professional:
-
Add soft orange shading under the head.
-
Lightly shade under the belly and arms.
-
Blend gently for depth.
✨ You can also add a faint shadow under Pikachu to ground the character and make it look less flat.
✨ Final Touches
Once everything is colored:
-
Clean up your sketch lines.
-
Outline with a darker pen if desired.
-
Erase unnecessary guidelines.
-
Add small shine marks to the eyes for extra life.
Step back and look at your drawing. Does it feel balanced? Cute? Expressive? Small adjustments in eye spacing, head size, or ear tilt can dramatically improve the result.
Drawing Pikachu is a fantastic exercise for beginners because it teaches:
-
Proportion control
-
Clean line work
-
Symmetry
-
Expressive facial design
-
Basic shading techniques
The more you practice, the more confident your lines will become. Don’t worry if your first attempt isn’t perfect — every drawing helps you improve.
Keep practicing, stay creative, and most importantly… have fun! π¨⚡
